Jane King, Editor of Farmers Weekly presented a cheque for £50,000 to the Farming Help charities at a reception at the 2008 Royal Show. The cheque was on behalf of all those who donated to the Farming Help Appeal run in conjunction with the Farmers Weekly.
The funds are to go towards helping those in the farming community who are facing hardship and difficulty, and to raise awareness of the support available. The Appeal had the backing of NFU, CLA, TFA and NFYFC.
It continues to be a tough time for many people in farming. Last year’s bad weather and flooding, poor harvest yields, Foot & Mouth Disease, Avian Flu, and the continuing uncertainty about Bluetongue together with rising costs have all taken their toll. The Farming Help charities are experiencing very heavy workloads which are anticipated to continue throughout 2008.
It is still possible to make a donation to the Appeal. You can do so online by clicking here or by cheque, made payable to ‘Farming Help Appeal’ and sent to: Farming Help Appeal, c/o RABI, Shaw House, 27 West Way, Oxford OX2 0QH . Remember there may be tax benefits to businesses who make charitable donations. The Farming Help charities (ARC-Addington Fund, FCN and RABI) will channel any donations directly to their work.
At the Royal Show reception the Farming Help charities were pleased to receive further support for their work when Sir Donald Curry also presented a cheque for another £50,000 from the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust.
